1. India opens doors for genetically modified soy meal imports for poultry

For the first time, India will import 15 lakh tonnes of Genetically Modified (GM) soy meal. This will help the poultry industry overcome the crisis of high feed prices. Importers, including corporates like Godrej Agrovet said that these imports are going to arrive in 10 days. India has been importing GM soyabean oil and also consumes locally produced GM cottonseed oil. Read more here.

2. India’s sugar exports touch 51.1 lakh tonnes so far this year

Sugar mills have so far exported 51.1 lakh tonnes of sugar in 2020-21 with maximum shipments to Indonesia, said AISTA (All India Sugar Trade Association). More than 2 lakh tonnes of sugar is loading and an additional 6.78 lakh tonnes of sugar is in transit for delivery to port-based refineries. Read more here.

3. Foodgrain output to touch a new record of 30.86 crore tonnes in 2020-21

India’s foodgrain production is estimated to rise 3.74 % to set a new record of 30.86 crore tonnes in the crop year 2020-21 as said by the agriculture ministry. It added that the record output is projected in rice, wheat, maize, pulses, and oilseeds. In the 2019-20 crop year, the country’s foodgrain output stood at a record 29.75 crore tonnes. 4. Center releases ₹1,625 crore support funds for women entrepreneurs

On 12th August 2021, PM Narendra Modi participated in the ‘Atmanirbhar Nari Shakti se Samvadprogram via video conferencing. He interacted with women Self Help Group members and community resource persons associated with Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM). The main aim of DAY-NRLM is to mobilize rural poor households into SHGs in a phased manner and provide them long-term support to improve their incomes and quality of life. Read more here.

5. Agriculture sector records new business registration growth at 103% in FY21

As per a paper released by Dun & Bradstreet, the agriculture sector recorded the highest 103% growth in new business registrations. It has now become 12,368 ( FY2021) as compared to 6,107 in the previous financial year. The birth rate of new businesses showed a healthy pace of growth from 7.8% in FY16 to 10.2% in FY20 and further to 11.6% in FY21. Read more here.

6. Manipur sends consignment of organic black rice to Europe

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh flagged off a one metric tonne consignment of organic black rice to Europe. The Chief Minister said that the consignment is sent through North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC) in association with the state Department of Agriculture. Earlier they have sent 1500 metric tonnes of black rice to other states in the country. Read more here.

7. PM Narendra Modi announces mission to make India self-sufficient in edible oils

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a National Edible Oil Mission-Oil Palm (MNEO-OP) to make India self-sufficient in cooking oils, including palm oil. He took this step to reduce India’s dependence on imports. The mission ensures that farmers get all the facilities, from quality seeds to technology to promote the cultivation of palm and other oil seeds. Read more here.

8. Himalayan Goat Meat from Uttarakhand and Mohua Flower From Chhattisgarh Exported to UAE, France

Recently, the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the exports of dehydrated Mohua Flower from Chhattisgarh & Himalayan goat meat from Uttarakhand to France & the United Arab Emirates respectively. For the first time, a consignment of dehydrated Mohua flowers was exported to France from Chhattisgarh via sea. The produce was sourced from the forest in Korba district, Chhattisgarh & processed by APEDA registered enterprise. Read more here.
